QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED. Experience working with EL/New American families. Preferred bilingual in Nepali or Somali.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Case manage EL families in all components of the Head Start program.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct home visits and identify needs and goals for each family.
- Responsible for parent referrals to community agencies and assisting in emergency situations/crisis intervention for families.
- Assist families in completing health requirements of Head Start program.
- Record all contacts in Child Plus data system.
- Discuss educational opportunities with families and inform them of community resources.
- Assist EL children in Head Start classrooms in achieving child outcomes.
- Assist parents to work with their child at home by promoting backpack reading and take-home activities.
- Interpret for Head Start parent classes and family events. These are sometimes during evenings and non-traditional hours.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct with all Head Start children, families, colleagues, and community partners.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
The EL Specialist is required to attend all in-service and pre-service training sessions as required by Head Start.
Must be CPR and First Aid Certified and maintain this certification.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Nine months (academic school year)
32-40 hrs/week
