Terms of Employment:  Nine (9) months, academic school year

Hours:  8:20am - 3:45pm, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, when school is in session

             7:45am - 3:45pm, Tuesday and Thursday, when school is in session

 

Education: High School Diploma or High School Equivalency

 

Qualifications: Ability to work with student(s) with disabilities that qualify under section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 primarily in general education classroom setting.  Ability to work as a team member, demonstrates human relations skills, and demonstrates effective communication skills.

 

Job Goal: Assist the student with accommodations outlined in their 504 Plan with the daily activities that align with their school schedule. 

 

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: 

  1. Assist in carrying out activities to achieve goals and objectives listed in the students' 504 Plan.
  2. Assist students in instructional activities, curriculum modification and adaptations with the planning and supervision of the classroom teacher and/or special education teacher.
  3. Assist with the tracking of student progress through data collection.
  4. Work with computers and other adaptive AT equipment to aid in student learning.
  5. Supervise students individually with the planning and direction of the classroom teacher and/or special education teacher.
  6. Assist in the provision of accommodations and adaptations.
  7. Assist student in developing self-management skills.
  8. Assist teachers in classroom management and in the carrying out of positive behavior support plans for the student(s).
  9. Partner with classroom teacher in monitoring the classroom to minimize distractions and disruptions to promote learning of that student(s).
  10. Assist student(s) in loading and unloading safely from buses and in drop off and pick up zones.
  11. Participate in professional development, including program specific training and behavioral de-escalation, to acquire specific skills needed to perform responsibilities.
  12. Promote learning environments that are student-centered, safe, and supportive where through effective communication and relationship building.
  13. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior.
  14. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the district supervisor.  

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk and stand. Lift sixty (60) lbs. occasionally, with the ability to reach, stand, walk, carry, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, sit, and/or crawl. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely.  Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

 

Evaluation: Job performance will be evaluated by the Supervising Teacher, Building Administrator.
